We are always looking for excellent undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoc scholars from a diverse background! We have an array of exciting projects, some of which are very specialized (i.e. electronic structure theory development), whereas others are often interdisciplinary, with a mixture of science and coding. In either cases, HAVE FUN!

Tips for postdocs:

We are actively recruiting postdoc scholars.

Postdoc hires could be competitive in general, and job descriptions are often specialized depending on the funding scheme. Therefore, I would advice perspective postdocs with a matching research interest to reach out early. It doesn't hurt to be proactive, and even if you are not graduating, it is still helpful to get feedback early on what improvements can be made (shout out to all the professionals, mentors, and friends who kindly helped me in the different stages of my career :-)). The ideal applicant should demonstrate a strong background in computational chemistry, to be specific, either in electronic structure theory development and/or application of computational methods in catalysis, interfacial systems, batteries, or renewable energy scenarios. Programming skills, physical chemistry knowledge, and knowledge of HPC is a must, as you would be expected to participate in the development and maintenance of our code. Prior success collaborating with experimental groups; machine learning experiences; understanding of spectroscopy could all be plus, but not required.

If you are interested, please send me an email (jqian2@lbl.gov) with your short-bio in the email, and CV as attachment.  Thank you!

Tips for graduate students:

The best way to affiliate with us is 1) through UC Berkeley, 2) if your current academic advisor would like us to host you from other schools. There could also be 3) a limited availability of fellowships with DOE or other funding sources. In any of the above 3 cases, feel free to get in touch with me (jqian2@lbl.gov) so that I could provide support ahead of time.

Tips for undergraduate students:

We regularly take UC Berkeley undergraduate students in Computer Science or Chemistry. We've had positive experiences with this group of bright, highly motivated students in the past and we would like to continue fostering the bond. The student would gain unique experiences working closely in a National Lab environment and the student will be compensated with school credits or a small amount of stipend.
